Copy Of A
Label: Polydor Records
If the subtle textures of "I Would For You" bury its "Head Like a Hole"-sized chorus for radio programmers, so be it. Hesitation Marks is Trent Reznor's least hesitant album in years, which is stunning considering it's one of his quietest. It answers the question of what to do after a headbanger eventually hits a wall. It means going back in time a bit and utilizing other sounds he was ignoring while his screaming career took flight: "Copy of A" and "Came Back Haunted" turn acid-house squiggles into sexy slow burners, while "In Two" and "All Time Low" have some of his weirdest riffs ever.
