Obituary's second album is marked by the presence of Death guitarist James Murphy, expansive songs and the guttural choke of John Tardy. Tardy was among the first metal vocalists to employ this growling style of singing instead of the high-pitched scream used by pretty much everyone who came after Judas Priest, and that is just one fact that points to Obituary's importance in the formation of death metal. Their unpredictability when it came to time changes, willingness to range far from the accepted moves and dedication to truly grisly subject matter further the cause. Check "Dying."
