The Hungry Years
Label: Razor & Tie
If these 22 songs sound like they were remastered with equipment more advanced than anything that's been invented, it's because they were rerecorded in 1991. But Sedaka's voice is so weird and high that he still sounds like he did back in 1957, and the recordings (though somewhat overly produced) pretty much stick to the style and tone of their original timeframe. Fear not, purists! Original demos of "Where the Boys Are" and "It Hurts to Be in Love" are preserved here in their wonderfully hissy analog style. Also, "What a Surprise" and "Junkie for Your Love" make their commercial debut.
