Like a less evil Ghost or less sacred King's X, but funnier than either, this arch L.A. outfit makes a sort of Magical Mystery Metal, crashing fancy late Beatles melodies and harmonies against stout early Sabbath doom riffs. Their fourth album shares its label with Spock's Beard and guest-stars Dream Theater's ex-drummer. But Bigelf's brand of prog has balls, brains, backwards tape tomfoolery, talk box parts, Kurt Weill rhythms, astro-glam guitars, an obsessive-compulsive single called "Control Freak" and a seemingly tongue-in-cheek plot about escaping to space for Earth's final days.
