Two years after 2004's If We Can't Trust The Doctors..., Blanche sounds less like a reincarnated Carter Family and more like Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra (especially on the distorted, hip-swaggering title track). With heavy-lidded melancholic beauty, they do for the Stones' "Child of the Moon" what post-Parsons era Byrds did to Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." The waltzing "Never Again" unfolds with rustic banjo, weeping pedal steel and reverberated whammy-bar dive-bomb leads on the guitar. Dan John Miller and Tracee Mae Miller's lovesick harmonies are exquisite.
