Burning For Love
Label: Island Records
Bon Jovi's debut so perfectly captures the state of mid-'80s pop-rock that it almost doesn't seem real. Everything is ripped to shreds and breathlessly snarled with the kind of gut-punching desperation you can only find in a teen movie -- or a Broadway musical. Just wallow in the one-two punch of the epic "Burning for Love" and "Come Back." That explains the pop appeal of these pinup rockers. But the rock is just as formidable: churning guitars, acrobatic riffs and fierce keyboards (courtesy of David Bryan) that evoke the history of classic rock and made cuts like "Runaway" new classics.
