Brandt Brauer Frick's approach to dance music is not like most producers'; for starters, it's composed on orchestral instruments, rather than synthesizers. So it figures that their Miami is not quite the bikinis-and-palm-trees playground that DJs typically make of the place. Using prepared pianos, abstracted percussion and layers of strings, horns and woodwinds, their painstaking club constructions are part Berlin techno, part Steve Reich; guest vocals come from Gudrun Gut, Sa-Ra's Om'Mas Keith, Nina Kraviz and Jamie Lidell, who soulfully bares all, as usual. Spring break, woo!
