Crosseyed Heart

If _Crosseyed Heart_ isn’t Richards’ best solo effort, it’s certainly his most fun. Dishing out gobs of fuzz boogie and rickety twang, the icon embraces his standing as rock’s filthy, old bugger. A fitting song title for a dude who is no stranger to debauchery, “Substantial Damage” is mangy junkyard funk. Just as intriguing is “Robbed Blind” -- at first blush, the country-rock weeper teases tenderness. Yet Richards’ gruff, half-spoken lyrics (think Leonard Cohen after three packs of smokes) reveal a nasty noir of crime, betrayal and broken hearts. Don’t age gracefully Keef -- it doesn’t become you.
