This 1968 masterwork was one of the touchstones of the psychedelic '60s, and existed mostly in memory until two years after Arthur Lee's release from a California prison in December 2001. Along with LA pop band Baby Lemonade, Lee delivered a spellbinding performance at London 's Royal Albert Hall, recreating the entire album, along with a few surprises. This rendering of the classic is surprisingly faithful to the original, and in some ways even better. Lee's voice is a more seasoned tool -- he no longer strains for the high notes the way he did 35 years before, and he seems more at ease with his unease.
