So We Meet Again My Heartache
Label: Decca (UMO)
The multi-talented singer-songwriter's fourth record opens with the impossibly catchy "Mira," which seamlessly blends African, Latin and American music with a confidence that informs the rest of The Absence. Gardot's music patches together styles from the four corners of the Earth effortlessly, and the end result is not so much an education in musicality as a celebration of music itself. That's a heady idea but Gardot consistently gets away with it thanks, in no small part, to her super-duper gentle singing voice.
