The Man I Love
Label: World Music Records
This 1957 album kicked off Peggy's greatest period of artistic and commercial success. It was also the vocalist's first disc back at Capitol Records after a few years at Decca. Sinatra, who conducted and co-designed the album sleeve, places her amid orchestral charts by the brilliant Nelson Riddle. Riddle's string charts are often heavier than the ones he wrote for Cole or Sinatra, but they match the singer's languid, dreamy mood. The two jazzy bonus cuts show these artists' diversity: "Uninvited Dream" is a noir torch song and "It Keeps You Young" is a swinging ode to action in the bedroom.
